Accommodation in Rome, Italy :
how to find the ideal hotel for you.

Accommodation in Rome (Italy) is plentiful - but what do you need to look for when deciding where to stay in Rome?

Before using our pages of personal reviews of hotels in Rome have a look at the features which you may need to look for when deciding on your perfect hotel.

Accommodation in Rome, Italy : general information.

Obviously, the hotels we recommend are by no means the only places the city has to offer. There are literally hundreds of hotels, all of which have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Those we review are those we have personal knowledge of and are happy to recommend, but before you begin to even think of booking, you need to consider exactly what you want to get from your hotel.

Here are some features you need to look out for  :

Location  :  Think very carefully about exactly where to stay in Rome. Most of the accommodation we feature is situated near the city centre.

There are cheaper places to stay, but they tend to be on the outskirts and you need to remember to add on the cost of travelling in each day - not to mention the time it adds onto what will already be long days.

If you're travelling with elderly people or children, or it's your first visit, our advice would be to stay near the centre. It's less confusing and less tiring.

On the other hand, if you know the city well and feel confident in getting around, you may want to consider staying a little further out. Our recommendation then would be to stay at one of the best places to visit in Italy - the Trastevere district.

Air conditioning  :  If you're visiting in the heat of Rome's summer climate it's absolutely imperative to find a hotel with air conditioning - which all our recommendations do have.

It's one of the best ways to keep cool and essential if you're travelling with older people or looking for places to stay with kids in Rome.

Swimming pools  :  Very few city centre hotels have pools, and those that do are inevitably the most expensive.

The alternative is to spend some time on Rome's beach or at one of the public pools, details of which are all on our beach page.

Internet : Watch out for this one, particularly if you have children and young adults in your party for whom keeping in touch with friends back home is more important than more or less anything else!

Many of Rome's hotels have no internet access at all, in which case you may need to find access elsewhere.  Go to our page about internet activities in Rome for more information.

If your hotel does have access, check the price.  It can be very expensive, and you may be well advised to get online elsewhere.

Above all, beware of using a dongle in Italy unless you buy it locally. There are horror stories of travellers clocking up thousands of dollars worth of internet time without realising it.

Again, you're better to go to a local internet cafe.

Booking : On each page of our reviews of accommodation in Rome, Italy, you'll find a search box to help you search for the best price at each hotel.

This is a free service for you and there's absolutely no obligation to book - it's just our way of offering our visitors a service.

Alternatively, use this search box to find a hotel. Enter your details to be taken to a separate page which will list for you all the hotels available during the dates you want to stay, together with reviews and comparative prices.

Again, there's no obligation at all - it's just a service we've found useful when we're thinking about where to stay which we're passing on for your benefit.
